One-Hour Session for World Language Teachers

Listening skills are at the foundation of our ability to learn language, yet many teachers struggle to develop and incorporate authentic listening in their classroom.  In this session we will investigate where to find authentic and engaging listening texts, how to develop effective listening tasks, adapting listening texts for different levels of instruction, and ways to give students feedback on their listening practice. (This workshop is presented in collaboration with Shelby Cole)

In This Session Participants Will

  • Review current research on listening instruction and common barriers to effective listening instruction

  • Learn tips for finding relevant, current, and engaging listening texts

  • Practice structuring listening activities for a variety of videos, for different student proficiency levels, and for different listening purposes

  • Learn techniques for assessing listening comprehension

  • Receive links to libraries of vetted French, Spanish, and English listening resources
