Let's Grow! | Feedback, Rubrics, and Self-Evaluation
One Hour Session for World Language Teachers or General Education Teachers
All teachers provide students with feedback and rubrics, but do students truly know how to use these tools to improve their proficiency? A few simple adjustments to instructional practices can yield huge improvements in students' understanding of their own learning. In this session, participants will examine techniques for using rubrics more effectively, ideas to implement feedback, how to manage their grading load, and ways to increase student buy-in, leading to improved performance across the curriculum. With effective use of feedback, student-friendly rubrics, and a classroom culture of reflection, every student will be ready to grow in language proficiency!
In this session participants will:
Discuss common challenges with providing effective student feedback
Explore how student-friendly rubrics can foster student engagement
Try out practical techniques to teach students to use rubrics effectively
Learn tools to protect teacher time while providing effective, individualized feedback
Examine ways to include students in developing goals and self-evaluation
